McCoy was thrown to the wolves his first two NFL seasons in Cleveland and his development as a pro QB may have suffered. Certainly his pride suffered after he was shuffled aside in 2012 to make way for Brandon Weeden. He'll have much better support in San Francisco and, though he's no longer considered starter material, will have the chance to progress under the tutelage of acclaimed quarterback guru Jim Harbaugh.
Talk about going from the outhouse to the penthouse. 2011 draft bust Blaine Gabbert lost his starting job in Jacksonville last season, and no matter what city he called home in 2014, he was going to continue to be a backup. Today, Gabbert became a backup for the NFC Champions in two of the past three years.
The Jags traded Gabbert to the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday for a sixth-round pick, sources have told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
I can't believe that any team would give up anything to acquire Gabbert. This is a player who threw seven interceptions and one touchdown in three games last season. I'm flabbergasted.
Anyway, Gabbert will presumably have to compete to back up Colin Kaepernick. Colt McCoy is a free agent, so it's unknown whom his competition will be. He has no fantasy value, God forbid that Kaepernick suffers a major injury.
