2013 Outlook: Solid/Safe Pick

Last updated on Aug-19-2013 by Shawn Larabee

The Rams won the bidding war for one of this year's most sought after free agents. Cook's $35-million dollar contract puts him among the elite at his position, though he has yet to prove he can be an elite fantasy commodity. The speed, size and skill are givens; now it is just a matter of St. Louis being able to use him more effectively than Tennessee did.

Update: 8/15 - So, apparently Jared Cook has looked better than anyone in the entire NFL this pre-season (according to Peter King). We've heard this story before, however it doesn't take much to see that Jared Cook can be a Top 10 tight end in this league. This is the year we here at FFToolbox are saying, "Go Get Cook" as your starter, just don't pay a crazy price to do it. If you're not getting Jimmy Graham, Witten, Gronkowski or Gonzalez, Cook falls into the next tier of tight ends that's about 10 deep. Feel free to pick him off the board right after the names listed above are gone.

2013 Mock Draft Results

Month Position Franchise/Comments
2013 FFToolbox Staff Mock Draft #1
June 18th, 2013
8.05 FFToolbox - Brian Murphy - I was very annoyed that Miles Austin was taken one spot ahead of me here. I settled for Cook because we are able to start two tight ends in this league, and because I didn't really like any of the running backs in this area. We know Cook has plenty of potential, but now he is part of a team with a coaching staff that actually wants to unlock it. Cook could be Sam Bradford's top target, and it wouldn't shock me if he finishes the year inside the top seven in fantasy points among tight ends.
2013 FFToolbox Expert Mock Draft #2
July 2nd 2013
8.06 The Huddle - Missed on Jason Witten, missed on Vernon Davis, and Kyle Rudolph gets sniped right before I pick? Ouch, babe. I'm no big fan of Cook, but his projections make him an upside pick here and the position is thinning rapidly.
2013 FFToolbox Expert Mock Draft #1

9.05 FFToolbox -Scott - Rave reviews coming out of St Louis about Cook and the role he'll have in the offense. Let's see if he can put together a solid season. Considered others but the questions surrounding the Rams wide receivers make me believe he's ready for a true breakout season.
2013 FFToolbox Expert Mock Draft #3
July 9th, 2013
10.04 World Ranked #20 - Too many talented TE's still on the board. We should have taken R.Randle as we thought we'd get him at 11.8 however missed out. That being said love the upside of cook. Coach Fisher hand picked him and paid him good money and has been known to produce solid TEs in his system (Bo Scaife was actually relevant with him!) Thinking this will be the year his production matches his potential.
