2011 Outlook: Super Sleeper (high risk/potential)
Dixon's one NFL start in 2009 came in a week 12 loss in Baltimore where he struggled against one of the league's more talented defenses. He completed 12 of 26 passes for 145 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He does offer dual threat versatility as an above average runner (ran for 27 yards and a touchdown in the week 12 start). His fantasy upside is limited, but Dixon could make for a decent spot start in the first month of the season depending on match-ups. The first six games of the season do feature match-ups against three defense that were ranked in the bottom 10 in pass defense (Atlanta, Tennessee, and Cleveland).
UPDATE (8/24): The Steelers O-line has continually struggled in pass protection (no real surprise that the addition of Flozell Adams hasn't helped). They would be best served starting the more mobile Dennis Dixon to open the season and Dixon has outplayed veteran Leftwich during the first two preseason games. Against the NYG, Dixon led two scoring drives and finished 7-of-8 for 82 yards. The first four games are mixed bag for the Steelers passing game as they start with two favorable matchups against Atlanta(28th) and Tennessee (31st) but then in weeks 3 and 4 they face formidable pass defenses in Tampa (10th) and Baltimore (8th).
