2012 Outlook: Solid/Safe Pick
Last updated on Jul-13-2012 by Chris WeeksCharles suffered a torn ACL in the first quarter of the Chiefs' second game last season. Everyone knows it takes at least 12 months for players to recover from an ACL injury. This means sometime shortly after the season begins Charles should be at 100%. Jamaal claims he'll be ready for week one, but we'll believe that when we see it. When Charles does return he'll be sharing the workload with newly signed Peyton Hillis. This is not good news for fantasy owners. Charles at 100% would be a fantasy stud; Charles at 100% splitting carries means could mean lower numbers than fantasy owners want for their number on back. In his prime Charles only needed 14-18 carries a game to reach 100 yards. If his knee holds up he should get those 14-18 carries a game and by mid season when other backs are starting to slow down Jamaal should be still going strong. Some may be affraid of Hillis but I think having a bruising back to share the load will only help Charles in the long run.

2.02 | RotoWorld.com - So many players I want to take here, but I'll settle on my second running back (RB with questions, that is) in four picks. I feel very strongly that the best strategy this season is to go RB/RB 1/2 because there's just so few players with proven workhorse roles/RB1 pedigrees. It's true Charles is coming off major injury and now has Peyton Hillis to contend with, but he's almost a year removed from his torn ACL, and has proven he can succeed in a two-back backfield. He's not without risk, but the upside is too great to pass up here. |

2.05 | FFToday.com - Really debated here between Andre Johnson and Jamaal Charles. Marshawn Lynch was also a consideration prior to his DUI charge. With the depth at WR this season, decided to grab the best RB on the board. Not very concerned with Jamaal's return from injury given how early it happened last season. |

2.11 | FFToolbox.com (Ben) - First draft this year I've gone RB-RB (also first draft I've had a top 3 pick). Been leery of Charles near the first turn, but at this point I'll bite. The Chiefs ground game is looking rather nice this year. |
