2011 Outlook: Solid/Safe Pick

I really questioned the Vikings' front office when then signed the Giants' backup tight end to a five year 18 million contract in 2007, but it looks like they knew what they were doing. V-shank is yet another Viking receiving threat coming off a career year in 2009. Once known as the man missing a towel in the infamous locker room photo with owner Ziggy Wilf, Shiancoe emerged as a great red zone threat for the Vikings last season as he hauled in 11 touchdowns. At 6'4, 250, he has the athleticism to create mismatches on opposing linebackers and safeties and really clicked with Brett Favre as evidenced by his career-highs in catches (56). He finished the 2009 season tied with Tony Gonzalez for 5th in fantasy production and the 29 year old should remain among the top 10 tight ends off the board in fantasy drafts.

UPDATE (8/24) - Shiancoe could be in line for an increase in red zone targets with Sidney Rice sidelined. He is now a surefire top 10 fantasy TE and might be worth bumping him slightly up your rankings.
