2013 Outlook: Quality Backup

Last updated on Jul-12-2013 by Matt De Lima

For the first time since 2007, Carson Palmer passed for over 4,000 yards a year ago. That's an admirable feat considering his teammates over in Oakland. He will have a better array of weapons, including Larry Fitzgerald and the promising Michael Floyd. New head coach Bruce Arians will certainly take more chances with the passing game. While with the Colts, he had Andrew Luck, Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton all playing very well. Palmer is a low-risk backup that can be selected toward the end of your draft. If you have an excellent QB1, Palmer is someone who can outproduce his draft value and possibly garner some trade interest with a hot start.

13.06 Fantasytaz - Jim Day - I love Palmer as a high upside QB2 this year. Not only is he working with a much better receiver corps, but he is also joined with Coach Bruce Arians. Arians will allow him to stretch the field with his long arm and having Larry Fitzgerald to throw to certainly does not hurt his value. if Michael Floyd continues to improve, as he did in the tail end of 2012, then Palmer could flirt with top 12 status. He was a top 12 QB in the 1st 14 weeks of 2012.

13.01 FantasyTaz - I was high on Palmer last year and he didn't disappoint. In the 1st 14 weeks of 2012 he was the 10th best QB in this scoring, ahead of Tony Romo and Andy Dalton. This year he moves to Arizona where they have been dying for decent QB play. Arizona has taken steps to improve the play of their oline and with the addition of coach Bruce Arians, I expect this passing offense to take a major step forward in 2013.
