2011 Outlook: Fantasy Handcuff
In most cases when I see a running back hit 30 I immediately move him down a notch or two on the draft board. Each year there after they begin a few notches lower than the previous season. Playing running back in the NFL is a very demanding job. The body and mind take a beating week in and week out. Once these athletes reach 30 their bodies don't recover as quickly, and as the season progresses their production tends to slide. This doesn't seem to be the case for Ricky Williams though. I guess taking a few years off in the middle of his career has helped him on the tail end. As for this season, I think we'll see a lot of what we saw in the first few weeks of last year. Ricky will get his chances and when he does, his numbers will look good. On the flip side, when he only gets 6-8 touches fantasy owners will be left wondering what happened. If you draft Ronnie Brown you must pick up Ricky immediately. Should one of them get injured the other will be the feature back. Until that time however, Ronnie should get the lions share of the load (but don't count Ricky out). Williams will outscore Brown from time to time.
