2011 Outlook: Solid/Safe Pick
There is no doubt that Donovan McNabb has been one of the premier signal callers and fantasy options over the past 10 seasons. While the 33-year old is closer to the end, it was still the shock of the off-season to see the Eagles finally send him packing...and to a division rival no less. I refer to McNabb as the "worst, best QB I have ever seen" because of his penchant for making some gawd-awful throws while still winning game after game and producing -- last year to the tune of 3,553 yards, 22 touchdowns and only 10 picks. While the deal to Washington gives Mr. Chunky Soup a new lease on life, he was unable to bring his competent offensive line and playmaking receiving corps along with him and it is in those two areas where his NFL and fantasy world this year will be determined. There are some talented weapons in the passing game for sure and the Redskins are still in the process of re-working their offensive line, but McNabb will go a long way toward helping both areas with his leadership -- something this franchise has lacked for some time. Even with the Eagles, McNabb lacked the upside of the top level passers and now he drops to a borderline QB1 in 12-team leagues, though he certainly should not be counted out. Consider him to be a relatively safe pick, but spending a middle round pick on a second QB to pair with him is the prudent play.
