Big and lightning fast, Latavius Murray could make a splash if he earns a starting job. For now he'll have to wait for Darren McFadden to get injured or play terribly. There's a glimmer of opportunity as McFadden has never missed fewer than three games in a season.
Back in January, Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie made it pretty clear that he would much rather re-sign Rashad Jennings than Darren McFadden if he had to choose between his running backs. Well, Jennings is on his way out of town, so it looks like McKenzie had to settle for McFadden. And McFadden had to settle for a "prove it" contract.
According to Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area via a source, the Raiders have re-signed McFadden to a one-year deal. It is worth $4 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
McFadden, of course, is coming off a season that was just like all of his previous NFL seasons: marred by injury. He started the Raiders' first eight games before missing five of the next six due to hamstring and ankle injuries. By year's end, he was playing as a backup to Jennings.
It's an OK deal for both player and team, just a little surprising since McFadden's departure seemed to be a given not long ago. But Jennings got away, so things changed.
I loved McFadden going into last season, believing that the Raiders return to a power run scheme would revitalize McFadden after one down season in a zone-blocking scheme. But that didn't happen. Not only did McFadden get hurt yet again, he averaged the same yards per carry as 2012 (3.3). Although he will be only 27 years old this August, you have to wonder if McFadden is simply worn down by a career defined by injuries. It clear that he needs to be part of a committee rather than a workhorse. We'll just have to see who the Raiders tab to replace Jennings. The in-house replacement right now is second-year player Latavius Murray, whom head coach Dennis Allen likes. Marcel Reece is also on the roster. I'm done betting that next season will finally be the one McFadden's body holds up.

|15.06||Fantasytaz - Jim Day - At this point in the draft upside is key, and Murray is another I think has some upside. He is a big back who runs very well. He ran a 4.38 40 at his pro day. With McFadden in front of him he should get some chances to play since McFadden can't stay on the field for a full season.|
