2014 Outlook: Quality BackupLast updated on Jul-08-2014 by Daniel Kalles
Stevan Ridley's biggest problem is that he fumbles the ball too often -- nine times over the past two seasons (including playoffs). After busting out in 2012 with over 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns, there were expectations of a repeat performance. Unfortunately Ridley never fully got on track as he dealt with more fumbles early on, putting him in the coach's dog house. Ridley is in a contract year and will be highly motivated to prove what he can do. With his strong inside running, he still offers a good counter to Vereen's speed and pass-catching ability, so look for the Pats to use that (especially around the end zone). Despite his up-and-down 2013 season, Ridley scored seven touchdowns. If he can avoid fumbling, look for him to score 10 touchdowns again. Ridley isn't used often as a receiver, so his value is higher in standard leagues and lower in PPR.
Editor's note: This former LSU back was the 28th RB off the board in a recent Fantasy Football World Championships Draft-N-Go. Ridley should hold onto goal-line work and respect for New England's offense carries his value as a RB2 in standard or perhaps a flex in PPR.
Zuri Berry of Boston.com wrote Monday that running back James White "is quickly becoming one of the camp's top phenoms and is the team's leading rookie." White received the most touches of any back during Sunday's 11-on-11 drills, finishing one ahead of Stevan Ridley.
Berry added that White has "exceptional skills and moves with the confidence of a veteran." The team is giving him "an abundance of reps" ahead of other rookies and veteran Brandon Bolden to see what White can and can't do.
White's receiving skills gets him compared to Shane Vereen often, but Berry thinks White runs more like Ridley, saying that they move similarly and run with a measure of determination. White is already expected to see a good chunk of snaps early on, but more could be coming if he keeps this up. If Vereen can't stay healthy or if Ridley comes down with another case of fumblitis, White looks to be the man who will benefit most. He's worth a late-round stash in re-draft leagues.

|5.10||FFToolbox - Scott Atkins - This is grand larceny. For a team like mine that only drafted one running back through 4 rounds, to see Stevan Ridley's name here was crazy. I had planned on taking a much riskier pick here, so to snag Ridley as my RB2 in the 5th round is extreme value. The Hernandez and Gronk issues should bode well for Ridley and his goalline opportunities.|

|4.04||FFMagicMan - I like Ridley better in a standard league, but again, given a WR/TE start I know I'll be trying to find RB value where I can. Ridley's role may actually increase looking at the current state of the Patriots' passing game. Either way, he is a strong RB2 and I'm very glad to grab him here in the 4th.|
