Marrdro's Mock Draft (Round 1)

<< Previous Mock Draft View all User NFL Mock Drafts Next Mock Draft >>

1 - KC: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
The Chiefs would be wise to go OL here but Reid isn't shy about getting his QB when he wants to. Smith fits the mold of what he likes, deep ball and mobile.
2 - JAX: Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
They would love to take a QB here but it just doesn't make sense. Alualu has had his problems and Knighton is a FA. They will probably look at QB in the second.
3 - OAK: Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M
Raiders need a lot of help on defense, mostly centered on getting to the QB. With Seymour probably gone and Bryant a FA, I think they would have loved Lotulelei here but settle for a pass rusher.
4 - PHI: Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M
Well they think they have a QB competion now so look for them to help fix their OL problems. If everyone gets healthy again I don’t think it is that bad of a group but you never know about injuries. Joeckel gives them flexibility and much needed depth to keep whatever QB the decide on healthy.
5 - DET: Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
They need a lot of help on the Defense, but with Avril gone and Vanden Bosch looking like he's done, they really need help on the outside. They pick the second best DE to help in that area.
6 - CLE: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia
They really should look QB here but with nothing better than Weeden they will pass. I'm gonna gamble and say that they will address WR via FA and go with a LB here to help get some pressure on the QB from that area.
7 - ARI: Matt Barkley, QB, USC
They've started 6 QB's since Warner left. They roll the dice here on a kid that would have been drafted a lot higher last year if he would have come out. I personally think they should look at their OL, especially T.
8 - BUF: Mike Glennon, QB, North Carolina State
I've seen mixed reviews on this pick. The GM contends he will go WR and then the next time he talks he says WR. They could help their DE's by getting someone in the middle but I doubt it. Look for a splash pick here. My guess, if they think that Barkley will be gone they might try to go up and get him instead of Glennon. I don't do trades so I'm going with the hard working, strong armed kid from NC.
9 - NYJ: Barkevious Mingo, OLB, LSU
Don't you just love the show the Jets HC puts on? Problem is, he is stuck with a QB that doesn't have any weapons around him and a RT that can't stop anyone and a HC who wants to go defense defense defense especially considering his issues at S. With to much money spent on Sanchez the coach wins and they get some help on defense.
10 - TEN: Kenny Vaccaro, SS, Texas
The Titans really had issues on their backend, especially at S. Look for them to address S and CB early in the draft and my guess is, if Vaccaro gets to them at 10 they will be ecstatic.
11 - SD: Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan
Gaither and Clary were not the answer at T last year and were directly responsible for the poor play at QB. The new staff will spend a lot of picks in this draft fixing the OL.
12 - MIA: Keenan Allen, WR, California
I'm going on the assumption that the Dolphins will get a deal done for both Jake Long and Hartline but that still doesn't fix their passing problems. They could go CB here but I suspect that they will jump at Allen if he falls here. If he doesn't they will take Patterson.
13 - TB: Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama
OK, celebrations can be seen in all of the streets in Tampa. With Talib gone, Wright dealing with injuries for most of the year (not to mention suspensions) and Biggers a FA, they desparately need help at CB. With the best one on the board available they jump at him.
14 - CAR: Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
The Panthers need a lot of help at both interior positions on the DL. I'm going to plug Hankins is for not but Richardson or even Floyd could be the pick here.
15 - NO: Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri
Same thing goes here for the Saints. Their DL is going to get a complete overhaul. If the Panthers take Richardson, the Saints will take Hankins. Again, Floyd could be an option here as well.
16 - STL: Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma
With teams looming behind them that need Olmen (especially T's) the Rams will use this pick on a T and take a WR at 22. If Warmack gets past Dallas, they might take in instead of a WR at 22.
17 - PIT: Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU
Pittsburgh reall needs someone who can put pressure on the QB from the OLB position. With no one worth taking here, they opt for DE and gamble on Ansah's upside.
18 - DAL: Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida
By all accounts Dallas should fix their OL, however, with new changes on the defensive side of the ball Floyd is to hard to pass up.
19 - NYG: Alec Ogletree, ILB, Georgia
T at both ends, DE, CB, OLB, so many ways to go here. For now I'm going to stick Ogletree in here. When I get a better feel for the collegiate players I might changes this.
20 - CHI: Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama
I am 100% convinced that we will see Cutler have his best year under his new HC and they will start that process by fixing a problem area on the OL. I'm also 100% convinced this cat doesn't make it this far but I just couldn't find a fit higher that made sense.
21 - CIN: Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU
Anyone who watches the Bengals (I'm a closet fan) knows what a bust Maualuga was. With Manny Lawson a FA, the Gals go ILB here.
22 - STL: Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee
I'm surprised he made it this long. Truth is, he or Allen could flip flop and I wouldn't be surprised. The Rams get the second best WR and fix a OL issue early on. Good draft for them so far.
23 - MIN: Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee
Even if Harvin stays we need help at the X and the Z, so it will most definately be WR here. With DeAndre Hopkins, Robert Woods, Terrence Williams and Justin Hunter all sitting there the Vikngs FO staff shouldn't have a hard time figuring out what WR will best fit our need. Some will call this a reach, but I've see this kid projected as high as a top 10 pick and as low as a third round pick.
24 - IND: Alex Okafor, DE, Texas
The Colts could look to upgrade the protection of their QB, but I think they will try to address their need at pressuring the QB and take the best DE available.
25 - SEA: Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama
Added pressure up the middle of the DL will help a good defense get better.
26 - GB: Jonathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina
Not much here that the Packers can use so they take a OG that can play RG, LG and C and see if he can fix their Center problems.
27 - HOU: DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson
Houston is happy to land Hopkins to play on the opposite side of Johnson. They can address ILB, RT, RG and FS later.
28 - DEN: Jonathan Jenkins, DT, Georgia
Vickerson and Bannan proved they are backups at best. Jenkins give the Broncos an immediate upgrade in the middle.
29 - NE: Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
He's no Wes Welker but it will be fun to watch him grow this year with Brady throwing to him. He adds a bit of speed to a WR corps that might need it.
30 - ATL: Datone Jones, DE, UCLA
Anyone think they were going to take anything but a DE? Edwards was let go during the season and is back trying to be a boxer.
31 - SF: Matt Elam, SS, Florida
Almost went CB here with Rhodes and Trufant still on the board.
32 - BAL: Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame
Ray Ray's replacement. Both have problems telling the truth about things but his talent should be a good fit.
