2/28 Post Combine Mock Draft V 1.0
1 - KC: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
KC might let Branden Albert leave in free agency this year, so Luke Joeckel might make sense with this pick. But, I get flashbacks of Andy Reid's then infamous pick of Donavan McNabb with this one - that one worked out okay.
2 - JAX: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia
Jacksonville has a lot of needs, including QB. However, with Smith off the board and no true No. 1 QB left, Jacksonville with look to boost their pass rush. Jarvis Jones is a true impact player and a proven commodity and will help them right away. Moore could be the pick here though.
3 - OAK: Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
This is a very deep draft for defensive tackles, with Lotulelei standing out because of his athleticism and explosiveness. Oakland will need help here as they won't be able to pay an aging Richard Seymour. He still has question marks but could anchor their line for a decade.
4 - PHI: Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama
A hard one to peg here for the Eagles. They have SO much cap room dedicated to this position with Asomugha and Rodgers-Cromartie, but it was an obvious weakness for them this year. The Eagles have high priced underperformers all over their team, but cornerback is one they need to fix now. Milliner can be a number one corner in this league.
5 - DET: Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M
Detroit will likely let Cliff Avril walk in free agency after failing to agree on a contract for several years and will need to address this position in the draft. Moore had a big year and will start immediately for the Lions.
6 - CLE: Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama
Again, tough to peg for the Browns. I would say that their biggest need is at Quarterback. However, the last thing that the Browns need to do is reach for a player that still won't be the answer. At this point, Luke Joeckel is by far the best player on the board. But the Browns are all set with Joe Thomas. If the draft really unfolds like it did with picks 1-5, I would expect a trade here. Their other needs: No. 1 WR, CB, and OLB really don't provide good value here. G it is: Warmack's a star.
7 - ARI: Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M
Arizona's line made leaps and bounds late last year. But, they can't resist the best player available here.
8 - BUF: Matt Barkley, QB, USC
Buffalo would love it if Geno Smith fell to them at this point. Although, with the Cardinals drafting above them, I don't think that happens. I've actually watched quite a few Mike Glennon games and I really see him as a bust. Sure he has the arm talent but he is criminally unathletic, a poor decision maker, and really has little leadership ability. Barkley's draft stock has plummeted, but I still see him as the pick here.
9 - NYJ: Barkevious Mingo, OLB, LSU
Mingo didn't have the breakout season that many projected him to have. But he has great speed which he can convert to strength and could be a terror off the edge for the Jets. Yes, they need a QB, but it looks like Sanchez will get another chance and apparently he doesn't perform with anyone watching over his shoulder.
10 - TEN: Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
A much better fit for their 4-3 defense than Dion Jordan, Werner has a very high ceiling and will get a chance to play right away.
11 - SD: Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan
Chargers have a big need at offensive tackle. Lucky for them, Eric Fisher really shined at the Senior Bowl and neutralized a lot of the defensive line talent that flashed at that game.
12 - MIA: Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee
Dolphins need a WR badly. Hartline came on strong late in the season but even he might be leaving in FA. Scouts are intrigued by Patterson's big play capability at WR and KR.
13 - TB: Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State
Tampa needs a CB. With Milliner off the board, Rhodes is the pick here.
14 - CAR: Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri
The Panthers find themselves in a good spot here. They have desperate needs on the interior of both the offensive and defensive lines. They have a shot at Jonathan Cooper and a menu of top DT's - Hankins, Jenkins, Richardson, Floyd, etc. Richardson has a great motor, good instincts, and great athleticism to rush the passer from the interior. He's the pick.
15 - NO: Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon
My feeling is that the Saints would have really liked it if Richardson fell to them at this point. But, sadly he doesn't. Was going back and forth between Hankins at DT and Jordan at DE but ultimately went with Jordan.
16 - STL: Keenan Allen, WR, California
If St. Louis is to have a chance at competing in an absolutely stacked division, their offense is going to need to take a major step forward. I was tempted to slot Vaccaro in here who is SKYROCKETING up the boards. But Bradford desperately needs help, especially if Amendola leaves or finds himself on IR again.
17 - PIT: Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
I could have gone about a thousand different ways here. I thought about Hankins as a replacement for old Casey Hampton. Thought about Vaccaro as a replacement for Polamalu down the line. Ultimately I think the Steelers look oldest at ILB and Ogletree has the high celing that Teo lacks with none of the drama.
18 - DAL: Jonathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina
This good of a guard class seldom comes along. Again, Vaccaro could be the pick here. But with Warmack long gone, it's time that Cooper gets off the board. G is a big need for the Boys.
19 - NYG: Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU
Justin Tuck and Umenyiora are aging and Umenyiora is likely on the way out of New York. Ansah could be another JPP. God that would be scary to have JPP rushing off both sides.
20 - CHI: Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame
Chicago needs help badly at O-line. But, at this point all of the first round talent is gone. Maybe Chicago grabs one of the big ticket OT's in FA - Albert or Jake Long. They need to add another target for Cutler other than Brandon Marshall. Eifert is the guy.
21 - CIN: Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin
A very talented young team with an obvious hole at RB. Ball may not be as dynamic as Bernard or Lattimore. But, he's very durable and should be an every down RB for the Bengals, rounding out their offense. If they can get another impact player on defense, I feel that the Bengals can truly contend in 2013.
22 - STL: Kenny Vaccaro, SS, Texas
Well, hey, lucky for the Rams, Vaccaro is still available 6 picks later. Vaccaro further rounds out that defense. A legit talent at safety with great cover ability. If Allen and Vaccaro can contribute right away, both Seattle and San Francisco should be SCARED of this Rams team in 2013.
23 - MIN: Mike Glennon, QB, North Carolina State
Glennon felllll all the way to 23 in my draft. Again, I think he has big questions. With that being said, the pick could also be Tyler Wilson out of Arkansas, who a lot of people thought might be a top pick entering the season.
24 - IND: Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma
Andrew Luck was sacked way too many times last year. They'll reach for an OT, just not sure which one. Lane Johnson is my guy here.
25 - SEA: Kawann Short, DT, Purdue
A great year for the Seahawks in terms of draft needs. They need an interior pass rusher and a big WR. There are a lot of these in the late first round range. Kawann Short is a guy that really jumped out to me at the Senior Bowl as being a perfect fit for the 3 technique. He looks in much better shape than he was in during the season and really got after the QB. I love this pick. But, who can ever guess what Jon Schneider and Pete Carroll will do.
26 - GB: DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson
Green Bay seemed to be really exposed on defense against the 49ers in the playoffs. But, that could have just been a bad matchup for them. Once they get Nick Perry back, they should be better. With Jennings and Finley potentially on the way out, I think the Packers may draft towards their strength and give Rodgers another weapon to work with. Hopkins is the pick here.
27 - HOU: Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame
I think the Texans need another receiver. But with Hopkins, Allen, and Patterson all off the board, I'm gonna say they boost their defense with an LB. The Texans finally take a chance on Te'o, a guy with a very high floor.
28 - DEN: Jonathan Jenkins, DT, Georgia
Champ Bailey isn't getting any younger. But, they also need a DT. Still a lot of great DTs available and the Broncos will snatch a run stuffer with Jon Jenkins.
29 - NE: Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
I can't imagine that the Patriots will spend the money to keep Welker around, especially after he collapsed in the playoffs. Tavon Austin has the potential to be a very dynamic receiver working out of the slot.
30 - ATL: Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford
With Gonzalez retiring, the Falcons have a big need at TE. Gonzalez was a huge, clutch target for them (as Hawks fans will agree) and he will be missed sorely. Ertz is very versatile as a blocker and a receiver. He will fit in well in their system.
31 - SF: Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida
Johnathan Hankins is a guy that a lot of people have coming off the board in the top 15. But, with need for a run stuffing DT decreasing in this league, he won't be drafted in the first. Floyd looks great as a 3-4 DE and will spell Justin Smith and work into the rotation. It's clear that the San Fran defense had way too much mileage on it by season's end. They need someone they can use right away in this defense.
32 - BAL: Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU
The Ravens need some help on the interior with Ray Lewis retiring. Hopefully they can keep Ellerbee but they still will need an extra to slot in there. Minter is a good fit for their system and he'll go off the board here.

Average -- Bengals will not take Ball in the first. They would not pass on Vaccaro at this point in the draft.
