Author's Comments

Not a quarterback heavy draft as I think should be, but is unlikely. I'm mostly just trying to provoke thought rather than make solid predictions. The draft never goes how people think it does and are always shocked when they don't agree with a mock. Say it sucks if you want I guess since I can't stop you from leaving anonymous hate. But CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is always welcome.

1 - KC: Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M
KC picked a bad year to have #1 overall. The QB talent won't have much of a drop off from the first to second round, so no need to reach for Geno here. Brandon Albert is one of the best tackles in the NFL and may want a bigger payday than the Chiefs are willing to give. If they let him walk, Joekel would be an excellent replacement. He is often rated as the best prospect in this years draft and an even better prospect than Joe Thomas or Jake Long.
2 - JAX: Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
If Joekel isn't the top prospect, Star is. Dominant interior play can make average pass rushers into good ones and good ones into great ones. Star has the size, mechanics, talent, and athleticism to be the next Warren Sapp, a big man who can rack up the pressures and sack while being the anchor needed for dominant run defense. Alualu is a decent pass rusher, but is basically a doormat in run D. Following successful teams like the Pats and Steelers, you have to build up front.
3 - OAK: Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU
Oakland loves althetic freaks of nature. Ansah did a great job improving his stock in the Senior Bowl and his combine should put him in top 10 consideration. He has the highest upside of any other passrusher. The Oakland D line is awful and about to lose players to free agency. Al Davis is salivating in his grave over this kid.
4 - PHI: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia
Philadelphia will be converting to a 3-4. Though former first rounder Brandon Graham graded out as a 4-3 or 3-4 pass rusher, he hasn't shown much in his first couple years. Trent Cole had an off year and doesn't really have the frame for an OLB. Jones was the best passrusher in the country this season and may have gone higher without his spinal stenosis. Jones is the best prospect available and a key piece in turning this defense around.
5 - DET: Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
Cliff Avril doesn't deserve the money he's about to get paid on the market and Vanden Bosch is pretty much done as a starter. Werner has an incredible frame and was born to rush the passer but also has ability in run defense, something Detroit has been lacking. With a good combine, he can solidfy his top 5 spot.
6 - NYJ: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
*TRADE* With some QB needy teams coming up, the Jets trade with Cleveland to take Geno Smith. We all know he's not an elite prospect, but he is far and away better than anyone currently on the Jets' roster. They have many needs, but none as glaring as under center. Doesn't matter who their receviers are, who's blocking, or how many times the defense give you the ball if you don't have quarterback who can get the ball down the field and into the endzone. His deep ball will be welcome in New York
7 - ARI: Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama
Bruce "Air"ians will bring his passing attack to the AZ and needs some competent blockers for whomever will be under center. RT Massie showed improvement over the season and Levi Brown is fully expected to return to his post on the left side. Warmack is a stud of a run blocker and it's game over when he gets his hands on you. He will instantly improve the worst line in the league. If they can get some semblance of a running game and give another second or two to their QB, they can suprise some
8 - TB: Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama
*TRADE* This is about as far as I expect Milliner to drop. Tampa's CB situation is abhorrent and something needs to be done so they trade with the Bills over some CB needy teams to grab the best prospect this year. Milliner is big and physical. He can hang with the tall recievers and provide good run support.
9 - CLE: Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M
*TRADE* Cleveland is switching back to a 3-4 and the best remaining defensive prospect is sitting at #9. Moore played OLB before switching to DE this season and is as disruptive a pass rusher as you'll find. There's almost no way he drops out of the top 10. The Browns must continue to improve their young defense. The offense will be a mess again, but while they figure it out, at least the defense will be among the best groups in the league.
10 - TEN: Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame
Blah blah fake girlfriend blah blah. Te'o is a baller. He is a downhill player who can read and react with the best of them. Though not extremely gifted athletically, he more than makes up for it with football IQ (even if his real world IQ is in question.) He can be a great leader and a centerpiece for this Titans defense who has been struggling to find an identity ever since losing Haynesworth. When all this hoax stuff settles (it will), folks will realize he's just a kid who got duped.
11 - SD: Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan
Receiver would be very tempting here, but Rivers needs protected before he can throw the ball. They overpaid for the chronically injured Gaither and are again looking for a solution. Fisher has improved his stock as much as any player this year and is essentially a shoe-in for the top 15. Rivers' downslope should stop with this selection. If not, they may be looking at a QB next year.
12 - MIA: Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee
Miami had a #1 receiver and wasted his talents for an entire season. However, they didn't have Tennehill under center. Though he wasn't quite on the level of Luck, Griffin, or Wilson, he has brought a measure of consistency to the QB position and will hopefully grow after an impressive rookie season. With more help on the outside, he'll have no excuses not to improve. Patterson is a tall big play guy and has future star writen all over him. His size and athleticism are sure to bring excitement.
13 - BUF: Keenan Allen, WR, California
*TRADE* Fitzpatrick isn't the only problem on the Buffalo offense. Stevie Johnson is the only receiver who can make something happen on this offense. They lack a legit #2 to take pressure off of Johnson or Fitz. Allen is tall with great hands and works best underneath as he lacks top end speed. His size will make him a great red zone target and his abilty underneath will open things up for Stevie. Fitz's decision making may also improve if he actually has more options to go to with the ball.
14 - CAR: Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
After expecting a DT selection last year (the Panther were comfortable with their startig duo), they've learned their lesson and address one of the weakest positions on the team. Kuechly greatly exceded expectations and was key member of the defense. Now with a big body in front of him to occupy blockers, he can be even more effective. Hankins will help improve their run defense as well as take up blockers and allow Charles Johnson and the surprising Greg Hardy to get more pressure on the QB.
15 - NO: Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon
I almost hate to put this pick here, but it's too good a fit to put anything else. The Saints are converting to a 3-4 and Jordan is a perfect fit. He's a fantastic pass rusher with athleticism to cover and stay with tight ends and a ceiling it would take binoculars to see.
16 - STL: Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
If Amendola walks, there isn't a doubt in my mind that this pick is a receiver. Bradford has toiled away without a legit receiving options his whole career to this point and is finally starting to see a decent group. Chris Givens has developed into a solid deep threat and has room to grow. Austin's ability in the slot should be a great compliment. Even if Amendola stays, they could still go receiver. Maybe Eifert. Safety is also a distinct possibility
17 - PIT: Alec Ogletree, ILB, Georgia
Imagine 2 Lawrence Timmons's in the middle of that 3-4. Both are rangy, good in coverage, and good tacklers. Having that kind of athleticism inside can dramatically improve interior passrushing. With 2 guys who can cover, it won't be obvious who is blitzing. Safety can go here as well with all the top prospects available, but it is a deep position and value can be found later. Ogletree is too good to pass on. Plus I like the rumor of Sean Spence being converted to safety.
18 - DAL: Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri
Dallas is converting to a 4-3. Richardson, like Dion Jordan, is the perfect pick. He is excellent in the run and pass rush and will surely open things up further for D. Ware. Anthony Spencer is expected to be gone, so playmakers need to be added to this defensive line.
19 - NYG: Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
The Giants are the biggest Jekyll and Hyde team in the NFL. Sometimes looking dominant and others pathetic. So where do we start? Corey Webster has proven he can't get it done. Banks is the #2 prospect at corner and shines best in the takeaways category. Tight end is also a possibility, but Manning has a good group of receivers and Bennett is good enough.
20 - CHI: Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma
Johnson has only been on the O line for 2 years, but has shown potential to be a shut down tackle. He is fluid and athletic and most importantly, will keep Cutler upright. The Bears have shown that they can't keep it together without Cutler under center and this is another step closer to post season contention.
21 - CIN: Barkevious Mingo, OLB, LSU
Mingo could easily go 10 spots higher. He is arguably the most athletic linebacker in this crop and explodes off the line like JPP. But he is lacking in strength and discipline. Too often you'd see him jogging near a play instead of finishing it. Mingo has star potential, but there is risk.
22 - STL: Kenny Vaccaro, SS, Texas
The wait paid off and the top safety comes off the board. Vaccaro is everything you look for in a safety. He can lay a hit and is excellent in coverage as well as willing in run support. You'd be hard pressed to find a safety who can locate the ball and fight for it in the air like this guy.
23 - MIN: Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee
I am torn here. Jesse Williams would be an excellent addition and makes all the sense in the world. But this is a team that needs considerable receiver help. Harvin was in MVP talks before his injury and is one half of the two man offense in Minnesota, not to insult their underrated O line. This is a deep draft for defensive lineman, so though they pass on a top prospect, there is value to be had later on.
24 - IND: Barrett Jones, OG, Alabama
Though Cooper may be the better guard, Jones wins out due to his ability to play every position on the line. Castonzo has lived up to the billing, but Winston Justice, while solid, is a free agent. If he is retained, Jones will improve one of the worst interior lines in the league. If he leaves, he could take over on the right side. I get a strong feeling that Luck will be a lot like Manning in that they will build the offense around him and ignore holes on defense because Luck can bail them out
25 - SEA: Sam Montgomery, DE, LSU
Talk about a team on the rise. That defense is so young and has so much room to grow. Chris Clemons is 31 and coming off a torn ACL. He has been a great contributor for the Hawks and likely has a lot of good football left in him. But just as he starts on the downslope, Montgomery will be rocketing his way up. He can be a rotational player for the first year or so or until he beats out Clemons. The only downside is that they will have to address DT later as both of theirs are UFAs
26 - GB: Jonathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina
Cooper is the best remaining offensive lineman. But that's not a knock against him at all. He's a 4 year starter that accels in pass blocking. And being that Rodgers was sacked 50 times, I'd say you have to go O line. They've been decimated by injury time and again. Though Cooper doesn't have the cleanest history, he is a plug and play guard for this team and should help alleviate some of the pressure.
27 - SF: Jonathan Jenkins, DT, Georgia
*TRADE* Texans fans have been waiting for a high end receiver for some time, but that's no reason to reach. So they trade down with the 49ers who select Jonathan Jenkins. Isaac Sopoaga is likely to leave in free agency and is one the wrong side of 30. Jenkins isn't a 3 down player, but you won't find many nose tackles that are. He is a space eater by every meaning of the term and will free up lanes for those great linebackers.
28 - DEN: Eric Reid, FS, LSU
Denver fans are still clenching their teeth from that playoff game where they saw Flacco torch their secondary for a great comeback vicory. Reid's best attribute is his ability to diagnose and get in position, something that was proven to be a weakness in Denver's secondary. He has fallen some in projections, but should still make an outstanding player.
29 - NE: Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State
The Patriots just can't stop drafting cornerbacks. Maybe they'll get it figured out eventually. Rhodes has good size and uses it in run support. He uses his body well and doesn't allow many yards after the catch.
30 - ATL: Alex Okafor, DE, Texas
John Abraham is an old man. He stayed productive despite the giant age monster coming to get him, but it's time to look toward the future. Okafor has great speed and has the ability to play 3-4 or 4-3, so they can mix up their looks and do some creative zone blitzing, though he lacks experience in coverage.
31 - BAL: Da'Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech
Boldin is still playing at a high level, but at 32 he is starting to slow down. And considering he didn't have much speed to begin with, it may bite him harder than others. Enter Da'Rick Rodgers, a receiver in the Boldin mold. He runs outside 4.5 but is as physical as they come. He uses his hands well to get open and show good body control. He has a checkered past, but I'm confident in John Harbaugh's ability to lead him in the right direction.
32 - HOU: Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas
*TRADE* Wilson is a guy who shouldn't start right away, so he's in a good spot. Matt Schaub is known to play at a high level, but the heat has waned a bit over the last few seasons. Wilson can sit and learn for a year or so until he's ready. His experience in a pro style offense should help him out and I wouldn't be surprised if beat out Schaub sooner than would be anticipated. His tangibles aren't overwhelming, but he is a gritty player who's willing to take a hit to get the ball downfield
