2007 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Quinn Pitcock, DT, Ohio State

Quinn Pitcock started at defensive tackle for Ohio State for the past three seasons. He competed against some of the toughest competition in the country during that time, which equates to valuable experience in preparation for the next level. He has exceptional upper body strength and excellent overall power. Pitcock's greatest strength is stopping the run, but he continues to improve as a pass rusher. His senior year, Pitcock recorded a career high 8 sacks. Pitcock brings a wide frame to the interior line to plug holes against the run, yet still has the ability to penetrate into the backfield. He is very good at the point of attack and utilizes his hands well enough to shed the blocker. Pitcock is very competitive on the field, but has been accused of giving up too early on some plays. He is not very athletic and lacks the mobility of many defensive line prospects in the draft. Although he tips the scales at around 300 pounds, Pitcock may need to add some bulk to compete in the trenches at the next level. Pitcock is not very flashy and is not likely to be a playmaker type in the NFL, but if any team is looking to bolster their run defense they should take a look at Pitcock. Pitcock's value has declined over the last several months, but still ranks in the top 10 for defensive tackle prospects. He is no longer a first round selection and will likely be taken in the second round.
