2014 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Jason Verrett, CB , TCU

An undersized prospect out of TCU, Verrett performed very well at the Combine given his excellent speed and leaping ability. Unfortunately, due to his 5-foot-9 frame, many teams may not believe he can cover and stick with some of the bigger and stronger No. 1 receivers in the game. This hurts Verrett's stock and may keep him from being selected in the first round.

Ran really well at the Combine by posting a 4.38 40-yard dash. More than enough recovery speed to bounce back off of a bad read. Shows good initial bust and can close quickly on the ball. Small frame, short arms, small hands and lacks bulk. Will need to add weight for first few years of his career. Poor tackler. Dives for legs and sometimes comes up empty. Scrappy hand-checker and looks to keep receivers busy hand-fighting rather than preparing for the catch.

Excellent ball skills. Great timing when deflecting a pass with his back turned. Above-average football instincts. Has a feel for the game and plays a step ahead of the average defender. Must improve releasing from blocks by adding strength.

Verrett projects as a mid to late second round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
