Vance McDonald Scouting Report

Rice Owls tight end Vance McDonald was a multi-sport athlete in high school and could have played multiple positions in college. Still has lots of potential to blossom as a tight end at the next level.

McDonald has a terrific frame and ideal height. Ran very well at the combine and proved he was among the best at his position athletically. Very broad shoulders with big hands. Very aggressive blocker and displayed fluid movement skills throughout his career. Already has experience lined up out-wide. Needs to pay more attention to fine details (questionable drops, poor footwork while in-line blocking). Below average hands. Straight-line speed is pretty good, but change of direction skills are lacking.

Incredible ceiling. Blocking concerns can easily be corrected. Not a lot of room on frame to add more strength, appears close to maxed out. Excellent performance at the NFL Scouting Combine could push him into Day 2 consideration.

McDonald is projecting as a late-second to third round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
