Louis Nix, DT, Notre Dame

Nix is a big, two-gap lane filler who can clog the middle and occasionally spring loose to rush the passer. He provided the open lanes which brought success to MLB Manti Te'o last season. An excellent run defender who will occupy blockers, cause disruption and move the pile.

Nix could have made the jump to the NFL last season after Notre Dame's near run to a National Championship. His return to the Fighting Irish was going great until late November when he opted for knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus. Draft stock will need to rebound as the NFL coaches/scouts will want to see that his injury caused no serious short-term effects. Before his injury, he displayed very quick feet and a nice burst at the snap. Possesses excellent, thick frame. Will command double-team attention early in his career.

Could be a terrific fit both as a 4-3 DT or 3-4 NT. Average pass-rusher. To his benefit, he does have a couple moves, but he mostly relies on his power to collapse the pocket. Could do a better job using his hands to disrupt passing lanes. Above-average pursuit for his size.

Nix projects as a Top 20 selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.
