2013 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Tony Jefferson, FS, Oklahoma
Jefferson is slightly undersized and possesses adequate speed. Closing speed is below-average, but makes up for it by taking good pursuit angles. Consistently in the mix and makes decent contact when in a pile. Conservative style and rarely over-pursues, which is intended to be a compliment.
Can cover the TE, but lacks the size to really challenge them physically or climb the ladder on a 50-50 ball. When the ball is in the air, he becomes more aggressive. Looks to knock the ball loose and disrupt the catch. He reads the play quickly. Reads the quarterback's eyes very well and has a nice feel for where the ball is going.
Solid in run support and holds up okay when in the box. Not a great tackler and will sometimes rely on collision tackling rather than wrapping up. Usually looks to take out the runner's legs. Solid in zone coverage and fluid enough to handle receivers in man coverage.
Jefferson projects as a third to fourth round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
