2013 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Keenan Allen, WR, California

The 2013 class currently lacks a clear-cut leader at the wide receiver position, but Cal's Keenan Allen is close to it as a speedy possession receiver with length and a refined ability to run routes.

Allen has great hands and consistently grabs the ball away from his body. Lacks high-end top speed and does not have break-away speed. He is the type of receiver who can make something happen after the catch and looks to turn it upfield. Projects as a reliable No. 2 receiver who can work the short and intermediate areas of the field. Gains separation getting in and out of his breaks quickly. Has enough size to battle defenders and use his big frame to post up defenders. Good straight line speed, but not elite.

Adequate run blocker with long arms. Not a great leaper, but has above-average body control when going up for the ball. Tracks the ball well and can go up to catch the ball at its highest point.

Allen must run a good 40 to keep his draft stock intact. Teams want playmakers in the first round and being able to stretch the field is important, even if it is not his best attribute. He projects as a mid-first round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
