2014 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt
Big strider, doesn't have great timed speed. Surprising quickness when attacking the football. Good ball skills and solid body control when needing to go up to make the play. Not a true downfield threat and will be looked to work the intermediate part of the field. Shields the ball well using his frame. Could begin career as complimentary No. 2 receiver and grow into more of a No. 1. Keeps the play alive well and reads the QB's eyes to find where to go on broken plays. Needs to use size and strength more to his benefit. Doesn't seem to have that chip on his shoulder in his style of play.
Good route runner for his size. Clean in and out of his breaks. This makes up for his lack of top-end speed. Fluid footwork. Hands are slightly above average. Focus sometimes an issue and will have to wrangle in what should be an easy catch. Good second gear when given space to accelerate.
Matthews projects as a high second round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
