Datone Jones Scouting Report

UCLA defensive end Datone Jones is a well-built prospect with NFL-ready size and strength. He was a versatile piece to the Bruins' defensive front and could feasibly play either defensive end spot and occasionally kick inside as well.

Great length, uses his hands well to establish first contact against blockers. Already has flashed the potential to use multiple pass rush moves while also being stout enough to bull his way into the backfield. Lacking in straight line speed, but shows an above-average burst off the line. Really took off in his senior year and is only now reaching his full potential.

Not a natural bender who can turn the edge in his pass rush, but also lacks the strength and size to play defensive tackle full-time. Will need to likely bulk up and maintain his athleticism to find his true position. This "tweener" status may prevent him from a becoming a first round pick. Shows a+ awareness when in pursuit and takes good angles to the football.
