2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Lamar Holmes, OT, Southern Miss
Southern Miss offensive tackle prospect Lamar Holmes is a raw prospect who only began playing football as a junior in high school. With limited experience playing left tackle, there is a higher ceiling to his game (although for now he is considered to be a middle round prospect). Some question his feet, but technique can be cleaned up (especially for players with limited experience like Holmes).
Holmes' strengths are as a pass blocker. He gets off the line well, but needs to learn how to play to the whistle. Needs to play with a better knee bend and not get his weight too far out front. Inconsistent drive blocker that will need to bulk up in his lower half.
Holmes' long arms are likely a big part of his appeal to the Falcons. Being able to initiate contact and keep defenders at arm's length can negate a pass rusher. Holmes possesses solid athleticism and a frame that can add some strength. For a third round selection, he will likely compete for time at right tackle immediately and could potentially move to left tackle if things go smoothly.
