2013 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Barrett Jones, OG, Alabama

Alabama Crimson Tide offensive center Barrett Jones is one of the most highly-regarded and well-decorated interior linemen to enter the NFL in many years. He had a stellar career with 'Bama, winning the 2012 Rimington Trophy (best center) and the 2011 Outland Trophy (best interior lineman) amongst many other awards and three national championships. For all that Jones accomplished at the collegiate level, he may not even be the top center in this draft class.

Jones is very mentally tough. Great decision maker in setting up the blocks. A natural talent at picking up blitzes and holding his ground. Very rarely misses an assignment and always seems to be in the right place at the right time.

Better run blocker than pass protector. Gets off the line quickly and uses his hands well to initiate contact. Hard-worker. Uses good pad leverage and gets low in his stance to drive his opponent. Plays to the whistle. Good balance. Limited athleticism and can struggle against well-rounded players who can use both speed and power moves. Will need work as a zone blocker.

Jones projects as a second round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
