2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Chris Rainey, RB, Florida

One of the fastest players in college football, Rainey was a huge star at Florida for four years. The running back received a medical hardship in 2007 then contributed right away as a freshman in 2008. He rushed 84 times for 652 yards (a 7.8 average) and four touchdowns. Rainey's lowest yards-per-carry average in four seasons was an impressive 5.0, and that was when he rushed 171 times as a senior in 2011. He averaged 6.5 yards on 89 carries as a freshman and 7.2 yards on 51 carries as a junior. Rainey scored a total of 13 rushing touchdowns in his career to go along with six receiving scores.

The Lakeland, FL native stands at a mere 5'8'' and 174 pounds. Players of that size sometimes make it in the NFL--albeit rarely--and Rainey has the speed to do it. He consistently runs in the 4.3s of the 40-yard dash and he has been clocked as fast as 4.25 from that distance. There will be a big buzz at the NFL combine surrounding what time Rainey will turn in for the 40. He is a dangerous weapon catching balls out of the backfield as well. He finished his career as a Gator with 69 receptions for 795 yards. Rainey returned kicks occasionally; in 2011 he had four kick returns for 103 yards and 12 punt returns for 106 yards and a touchdown. It's obvious he will never be an every-down back at the next level due to his diminutive frame, but his speed will make him dangerous in multiple areas. Look for Rainey to be a fourth-round selection in April's draft.
