2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Mychal Kendricks, ILB, California
Mychal Kendricks is shooting up draft boards after an impressive NFL combine. He was a top performer at his position in the 40 yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump and 20 yard shuttle. He also did fine with 24 bench press reps. Kendricks flashed some talent on tape, but very few had him graded out amongst the Top 100 prospects of this class.
He's an undersized inside linebacker who will have some scheme versatility in 3-4 defenses. Kendricks is an aggressive tackler with good range. Great first step and does well to stay small and penetrate the line of scrimmage. Plays with a great bend which gives him the leverage advantage when he gets in trouble. He can't take on blocks that well, but he is feisty enough to stay with the play to the whistle.
Looks pretty good in coverage. Solid drop step and can change directions well in open spaces. Too often relies on speed and needs to learn to play more under control and not downhill every snap. Not a great zone coverage guy but can stick with guys in man coverage.
