2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Dwight Jones, WR, North Carolina

Jones was probably ready for the NFL even during his time at North Carolina, but after four years of college ball he is finally taking his talents to the next level. As for the positives, scouts absolutely love the physical tools Jones brings to the table: 6'4'' and 225 pounds. For a man of his size, Jones has excellent speed. The star wideout averages a 4.50 in the 40-yard dash and has been clocked as fast as 4.43 from that distance. Needless to say, his combination of size and speed is the perfect recipe for success on Sundays. Jones also changes direction extremely well, has great hands, and is an effective blocker in the running game. He needs to improve his burst off the ball and his ability to keep the play going with the ball in his hands.

Not surprisingly, Jones tore it up up for the Tar Heels. He played sparingly as a freshman and sophomore, but he surged into prominence in 2010. Jones hauled in 62 passes for 946 yards and four touchdowns, playing in all 13 games while making 12 starts. He was even better as a senior. The Burlington, NC native made 85 receptions for 1196 yards and 12 scores. He is an obvious red-zone target and he should continue to be just that on Sundays. The red flags concerning Jones include off-the-field issues (controversial New Year's Eve party) and a minor injury history. Look for Jones to go off the board in the fifth or sixth round of the upcoming draft.
