2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Jerrard Tarrant, FS, Georgia Tech

Jerrard Tarrant's collegiate career at Georgia Tech did not start out particularly well. He redshirted in 2007 and missed the entire 2008 season due to a suspension stemming from a legal issue which was later dropped. Tarrant has had to answer plenty of questions about the 2008 rape allegation from NFL teams, but it remains to be seen how impressed scouts have been with his response.

Once Tarrant got on the field he made a huge impact for the Yellow Jackets. In his first season suiting up for Georgia Tech, Tarrant accounted for all four non-offensive touchdowns that season. He returned two punts for scores and one of his three interceptions was also returned for a touchdown. The safety even returned a fumble 40 yards for yet another trip to the end zone. That is a lot of big scoring plays for a safety.

The biggest issues facing Tarrant heading into the draft is his tweener status and his lack of consistent production. He really is not strong enough to play safety in the NFL, nor does he have the quickness or instincts to be a great safety at the next level. He is a playmaker and there should be a place for him on an NFL roster, but his questions outweigh his strengths and Tarrant should have to wait until the later rounds to hear his name called.
