2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Mark Dell, WR, Michigan State
There are some potential character issues here. Dell was involved in an on-campus fight in 2009 which led to him being placed on probation for 18 months and being sentenced to 150 hours of community service. Beyond that, Dell was a leader on very a successful 2010 Spartans team. He appears to be very dedicated and hard-working.
While he lacks big-time speed, he moves well and his route-running is solid. Dell is more than willing to work between the hashes and can secure passes in traffic. After making the catch, he shows flashes by fighting for extra yards and constantly churning towards daylight.
In order to succeed at the next level, Dell will need to learn how to create more separation despite lacking that NFL-caliber quickness. Learning how to explode in and out of his cuts would give him enough potential talent to compete for a roster spot, if only as a bench player, in the NFL.
Dell will likely be signed as an undrafted free agent after the 2011 NFL Draft but he could be a late-round flier for a team willing to give him a shot.
