2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Steven Friday, DE, Virginia Tech
By 2009 Friday had paid his dues, but he was still not in the starting lineup at defensive end. He was once again relegated to the bench, but he did see action in all 12 games and tallied 11 tackles, including 3.5 tackles-for-loss. As a senior, Friday was finally given the starting nod. He made the most of his opportunity and started all 13 games with the Orange Bowl against Stanford yet to come. Friday totaled 64 tackles, 15.0 tackles-for-loss, 8.5 sacks, 18 quarterback hurries and forced two fumbles. For his efforts he was named to the All-ACC second-team.
Friday has the strength and speed to play at the next level. He usually uses his speed to get around defenders, but that will not work as well in the NFL. Friday needs to develop some more moves and continue to add weight and strength if he hopes to get drafted before the middle rounds.
