2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Julio Jones, WR, Alabama
Jones was one of the best receivers in college football last season and was the Crimson Tide's leader at that position for three years. His stats were not really off the charts in his first two seasons, simply because Alabama featured a run-first offense led by 2009 Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram. Still, Jones caught 58 passes for 924 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman; 43 for 596 and four scores as a sophomore. He erupted in 2010, hauling in 78 balls for 1,133 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed eight times for 135 yards and found the endzone twice.
Jones has outstanding size at 6'4'' and 220 pounds. He can out-muscle smaller cornerbacks and has impressive 4.44 speed. His breakaway speed is not absolutely lethal, but he is especially impressive with the ball in his hands. He can make defenders miss as well as anyone in the nation. One minor red flag is a propensity for dropped passes, but if that is something that comes with the territory (ala Terrell Owens in his prime), then so be it. Jones should be the second receiver off the board in the 2011 draft behind A.J. Green. A first-round selection is a certainty and Top 10 is possible.
