2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Cody Johnson, FB, Texas
Two years earlier (back in 2008), Johnson had a superb freshman campaign. He ended up starting two games at the running back spot, but it was in short yardage and goal line situations where he excelled. At 5-11 and 250 pounds, Johnson would run over just about anybody who stood in his way and he totaled 12 rushing touchdowns as a freshman, tying Cedric Benson's school record. On the year, Johnson tallied 76 carries for 338 yards on top of his record tying touchdown total. In 2009 Johnson was at it again. As a reserve, he rushed for 335 yards on 87 carries and again reached the end zone a dozen times.
Johnson's lack of production in his junior season…or more like Texas' lack of production, has kept his stock down. In the NFL Johnson would be a fullback who can handle some short yardage and goal line carries. He has the size to do it, but he should be at Texas for another season before worrying about the NFL.
