2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Clifton Geathers, DE, South Carolina

Geathers, only a junior, improved steadily in each of his three seasons at South Carolina. The defensive end played sparingly as a freshman then saw action in all 13 games as a sophomore, making one start. Last season as a full-time starter, Geathers missed the first week of the season due to suspension but he bounced back for a decent junior campaign. He has never been as productive as his talent would suggest, but Geathers record 8.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 2009. Geathers has imposing size at 6'8' and 281 pounds. While not as fast as some pass-rushing specialists, he certainly has enough speed to get around the end when he can't overpower an opposing offensive tackle. Geathers is the younger brother of Bengals DE Robert Geathers, who gave his brother some advice prior to the 2010 NFL Combine. "The one piece of advice he gave to me was, 'Stay humble. Whatever happens, even if you do good, stay humble. And just go full-speed on every rep you take, because you only get one or two reps at the combine.'" Good advice for Geathers would be to telL him he needs to improve his fundamentals. With his physical tools, there is no reason why he can't produce at the next level. For now, however, he looks like a sixth-round pick unless a team decides his potential is enough to merit an earlier risk.
