2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Kendrick Lewis, FS, Mississippi
Lewis was a standout wide receiver in high school and he started out at that position as an Ole Miss freshman in 2006. After making five receptions for the season, Lewis moved to safety and the move paid serious dividends. He made 57 tackles in 12 game (seven starts) as a sophomore and then really took off. The Gainesville, GA product led Mississippi in tackles in each of the past two years while starting every game at free safety. Lewis made 85 stops in 2008 and 84 last season as a senior, including 57 solo (10 more than anyone else on the team). He was also tied for first on the Rebels in interceptions (2), second in pass breakups (10), and first in forced fumbles (3). Kendrick has good speed -- as he has been clocked as fast as 4.50 in the 40-yard dash while normally running somewhere around a 4.60. He also has solid size at 6'0' and 197 pounds. Kendrick specializes in pass coverage, and while he is not an absolute huge hitter like some safeties in this draft class (and a lot of safeties in the NFL), he does make the occasional big hit. Thanks to his stellar senior season at Ole Miss, Kendrick is virtually guaranteed to be drafted and he got invited to the combine so he will have a chance to improve his stock even more. A fourth-round selection is not out of the question.
