2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Chris Carter, WR, UC Davis
A true sleeper, Carter comes from little UC Davis where he posted decent numbers in the last two years. He was an instant sensation in 2007, grabbing a school freshman record 54 balls for 703 yards and 5 TDs. However, he was slowed by injuries in 2007, which limited him to only three games (5-74-1). Carter came back strong in 2008 posting a career high in receptions (69), yards (768) and TDs (5). He tracks downfield passes well and adjusts well to poor throws. Can make spectacular catches. Has the explosiveness to become a very good route-runner, but hasn't been consistent. Is a downfield threat. Has above-average speed (4.49) and good size. Works hard at his craft. However, he must show more focus and be consistent. Lacks a feel for reading zone coverage. Lacks great elusiveness or instincts as a runner. Must work on getting off the ball more quickly. Has suspect technique. Level of competition is a concern. Needs better coaching. Carter lacks elite height and must refine his route-running skills, but he has the natural speed to be a home run threat. Carter has a lot of potential and though his best value is in the fifth round, he could go higher.

Injury keeps him from being drafted, must show his health in camp.
