2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Thad Gibson, DE, Ohio State

Thaddeus Gibson had a very solid season in 2009 for the Buckeyes. He tallied 37 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles in 22 games prior to this season. He came on strong as a junior, registering 45 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 1 interception, 2 passes broken up in coverage, and 2 forced fumbles. Gibson is an outstanding athlete, but is too undersized to remain at defensive end in the NFL. His best position will likely be as a 3-4 rush linebacker. He does have some experience playing upright in a position Ohio State refers to as the Leo. He occasionally lines up as a linebacker to rush the quarterback. Whether the comparisons are fair or not, he may be hurt by the fact that the more athletic, more productive Vernon Gholston played that same position at Ohio State and has yet to transition well to the NFL. Gibson probably would have benefited from returning to Ohio State for his senior season. Depending on how Gibson's workouts go, he could be drafted anywhere from the late third to the mid fifth round.
