2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Aaron Pettrey, K, Ohio State
Aaron Pettrey is the top rated kicker on most scouts' boards for the 2010 NFL Draft. As a freshman in 2006, Pettrey took over kickoff duties and long field goals from the returning starter. He made 8 of 11 attempts, with a long of 51 yards. More impressively, he was 3 for 4 from 40 to 49 yards and 2 of 3 from 50 yards plus. Pettrey did not attempt a kick as a sophomore, losing the job outright to senior Ryan Pretorious. Pettrey again won the starting job as a junior, connecting on 7 of 8 field goal tries with a long of 54 yards. During 2008, he was 4 of 4 from 40 to 49 yards and again 2 of 3 from 50 yards plus. He has made an even bigger impact as a senior, hitting 13 of 19 attempts with a long of 52 yards. Pettrey is an experienced big game player, with plenty of leg strength to hit from greater than 50 yards. He went through a shaky stretch in the middle of this season, but has rebounded nicely. He obviously won't be coming off the board early in the draft, but any NFL team looking for a kickoff specialist and long range field goal kicker would be wise to select Pettrey in the sixth round.
