2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Stephen Williams, WR, Toledo
The Mid-American Conference is known for their quarterbacks, but it takes some good wide receivers to turn those quarterbacks into productive players. Toledo has lacked a consistent signal caller throughout much of Stephen Williams' collegiate career, but that has not stopped him from emerging as a potential NFL player. After redshirting in 2005 and seeing limited action in 2006, Williams had his breakout year as a sophomore. He led the team with 73 receptions and 1,169 yards and reached the end zone seven times. A season later he caught 71 passes for 781 yards and eight scores; both those seasons earned him second-team All-MAC accolades. The 2009 season has seen Williams get some competition from fellow receiver Eric Page, but in the ten games he has played, Williams has caught 71 passes for 983 yards and five touchdowns. Those numbers are even more impressive considering that the Rockets have played three quarterbacks. Williams will stay on NFL radars because of his size and speed. He is listed at 6-5 and 199 pounds and you cannot teach size like that. He may be a little weak when it comes to battling corners off the line of scrimmage in the NFL, but he was timed at 4.41 in the 40 and will look to fly right by the opposition.
