2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Stafon Johnson, RB, USC

Aside from Joe McKnight, Johnson is perhaps the most dynamic player in USC's ultra talented running back stable. As with McKnight, he was a highly recruited player coming out of high school. He played a limited, reserve-type role for the Trojans in 2006. He then made a big impact in 2007 rushing for 673 yards on only 98 carriers (6.9 ypc) with 5 TDs. Johnson had a solid junior campaign finishing the year with 705 yards on the ground in 138 attempts (5.1); he almost doubled his scoring total from the previous season with 9 TDs. Johnson is a great athlete with good speed (4.43) and agility; he has an explosive burst and is a threat to go the distance. He can be very elusive and effective in one-on-one situations. His good size and bulk enable him to hit the holes with authority. Although, he was not fully utilized as a receiver, but his hands are reliable and can catch on the run and adjust to poor passes. However, Johnson must improve his lower body power and run more aggressively; as it is, he runs too high, taking too many body shoots. He needs to work as a blocker, and his wwareness and technique must improve. He has to be more aggressive and physical at the point. Johnson has durability issues, but really needs more experience and polish at the passing game. Johnson is one of those players who projects as a better pro than college back. He has all the intangibles to be successful at the next level. He is a mid-rounder with tons of upside as a fulltime tailback.

Prediction: 7th Round

He deserves to be drafted after coming back from his weightlifting injury. I couldn't begin to imagine that whole thing. Good luck Stafon, you're gonna need it.
