Jamar Wall Scouting Report

Every cornerback that comes out of the Big 12 South deserves serious NFL consideration. Wall was tested week in and week out against some of the most prolific offenses in the nation and has done extremely well. Practicing against the amazing passing attack of Texas Tech cannot hurt either. Wall has a ton of experience as a cover corner and was a three year starter with the Red Raiders. Even as a freshman when he was not starting, Wall was productive. Although he was mostly relegated to special teams, it did not take long for everybody to see that he was going to be a good player. By his sophomore campaign in 2007 Wall was a starter and led the team with five interceptions. His success resulted in a variety of all-conference accolades. His junior campaign was just as productive, although the opposition was learning to throw away from Wall and that reduced his amount of interceptions. The story was more of the same in 2009. Wall did rank fourth on the team with 52 tackles during the regular season, but only picked off one pass. However, he easily led the team with 13 pass break ups and 14 passes defended. Wall has good enough size and speed to be a quality NFL corner. The pickings are pretty slim at that position in this class and that could move Wall up into the second round if he can separate himself from some other corners during Senior Week and at the NFL Combine. 2/15 Update: Wall was embarrassed a few times during the practices leading up to the East-West Shrine Game and his stock dropped considerably as a result. He is gifted athletically, but he failed to make plays and played a lot slower in practice than he usually looked while at Texas Tech. During the game itself he broke up three passes and tallied six tackles, but he needs to show in other workouts that his disappointing week was a fluke and not the norm if he wants to be drafted in the first four rounds.
