2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Dennis Pitta, TE, BYU

Pitta became the NCAA all time TE career yard reception leader (2,856) in the team's season finale versus arch rival Utah. He caught 57 balls for 784 yards and 7 TDs during his senior season. For his effort, Pitta was voted in to the AP All American second team. His production in 2009 actually took a plunge in comparison to what he did in 2008, when he recorded one of the finest campaigns (83 receptions, 1,083 yards and 13 scores) by a TE in college football history. The 6-foot-5 Pitta is extremely reliable. Catches passes extremely well on the run and over his shoulders. Can make the acrobatic reception. Has adequate size and speed (4.73). Comes back to the quarterback well. Is a decent threat after the catch. Is an average blocker who has the potential to match up well in-line. Is quick and savvy on his release. Knows how to get a clean release. However, he lacks elite speed and explosiveness. Does not make many defender miss. Lacks great size and strength. Can get jammed at the line. Must improve blocking technique. Needs to play with better leverage. Lacks a mean streak. Pitta has adequate size, good athletic ability and is a proven receiver. He lacks one outstanding trait that can separate him from the pack. Still, he could develop into a pass-catching TE/H-back-type in the NFL. He is worth an early look on Day 2.

Prediction: 3rd Round

Pitta is a very underrated player. He is a great pass catcher and will be a player at the next level. He reminds me a bit of Dallas Clark.
