2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois

Arrelious has made a wise move in declaring for the 2010 NFL draft. Benn has great size for the position, and also possesses elite speed compared to many of this year's other receiving prospects. Benn has been a starter since the beginning of his freshman year in Champaign. During that time, he has found a wide variety of ways to contribute for the Illini. During his three year career at Illinois, Benn has amassed 2221 yards receiving on 159 catches for an average of 13.9 yards per catch. He has caught 7 touchdown passes and also run for three scores. Benn doesn't just display his playmaking skills on offense, he is also a valuable contributor to Illinois' special teams. He has returned 42318 kickoffs in his career for an average of 23.7 yards, and returned one for a touchdown his freshman year. Benn had a disappointing 2009, due mostly to frequent double teams by opposing secondaries and underwhelming quarterback play. Benn has all the physical tools to be an All-Pro wide receiver in the NFL, but will have to work on sharpening his route running if he wants to succeed on the next level. If Benn shows improvement in his route running during the combine and workouts he could sneak into the first round, but likely will be drafted early in round two. Arrelious Benn has helped himself tremendously with his workouts this offseason. He started by running a 4.48 second 40 yard dash at the combine, where he also caught the ball better than expected during drills. He followed that up by running a 4.40 second 40 yard dash at his Pro Day in March. Benn is still likely a second rounder, but could be considered late in the first by teams like the Bengals or Jets.

Prediction: 2nd Round

Benn has all the tools to be a solid wideout, but dicn't show them on the field. It could ultimately be him playing through injury with a lackluster supporting cast, and not what to expect of him in the pros.

Wow, that is a lot of kick returns. That has got to be some sort of record. His team must have had a crappy defense.

I think Benn ends up somewhere between Houston and the jets. he wont make it to the second round. If he is still there when the jets pick they will take him.

I like this kid a lot. He has a great blend of size and speed. Has solid hands, and fantastic speed. Would have had much greater production if he had a decent quarterback. Givin two years Benn could be among the top ten recievers in the league.

reminds me a lot of Hakeem Nicks.... as 'backdoor' said, he's strong, fast, and has decent hands. he'll probably be the 2nd WR off the board, definite first rounder in my opinion because of his potential.
