2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Marlon Favorite, DT, LSU

Favorite is not quite as massive as some of the other NFL-esque LSU linemen, but he has good size at 6'1 and 302 pounds. The defensive tackle either needs to get bigger or quicker in order to make a serious impact at the next level. He has run under 5.2 in the 40-yard-dash and has decent lateral movement along the line, but he needs to improve in both areas to become a consistent force. Consistency has not been Favorite's forte in Baton Rouge, in part because he has never been a full-time starter. He started four of 13 games as a sophomore in 2006, six of 11 as a junior, and four of eight so far this season. Favorite has never racked up incredible stats due to the somewhat limited playing time. Through eight games in 2008 he has 19 tackles - one for loss - and one sack. He will bring plenty of experience to the NFL table, however, despite the relative lack of starting experience. Favorite redshirted in 2004 and has seen significant on-field action in each of his four playing seasons as a Tiger. He figures to be a backup at least for a while on Sundays, but he should be ready right away to step in should a starter go down or need some relief in the middle of the defensive line. Favorite is also a standout in the classroom (already graduated) and in the community, so he enters the NFL with none of those all-too-usual off-the-field concerns.
