2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

William Moore, FS, Missouri

At this point, William Moore is the top senior safety prospect. Moore paid his dues as an underclassman, but when 2007 came around he proved to be one of the best defensive playmakers in the country. Moore picked off eight passes during that season, which tied for the most in the nation. He did his best work after fellow safety Pig Brown went out for the year with an injury. Moore did not just pick up the production, but he also emerged as a leader of the entire defense. Moore is very well-built for a safety. His 6-1, 230 pound frame is ready and able to deliver a bit hit at any time and he will come up and help out the front seven in run defense. As his eight interceptions would prove, he is no slouch in pass coverage either. His versatility and all-around skills do not fall short in many areas. There are some other decent safeties out there in this draft class, but Moore could be the best of the bunch. If his status as the top safety remains, he could be a top 15 pick come April. But he will have to have a solid combine to hold off the likes of Myron Rolle as the top safety in the draft. 1/14 Update: Moore keeps climbing up draft boards. Since Myron Rolle, Taylor Mays and Kam Chancellor will not be entering the 2009 NFL Draft, Moore has turned into the top safety in the class. The lack of other top prospects, outside of Oregon's Patrick Chung, could make a team who really wants a safety reach for Moore. That could turn him into a top ten or 15 selection.
