2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Javarris Williams, RB, Tennessee State

Williams started as a true freshman in 2005, getting 872 yards on 202 carriers (4.3 average) with four TD. He also had twelve receptions for 93 yards. He was voted to the second team All Ohio Valley Conference squad. Playing in eleven games during the 2006 season, Williams recorded 1,233 yards on 245 (5.0) carriers with 11 TD; also caught 13 passes for 210 yards and one TD. He repeated as All Conference second team selection. In 2007 Williams rushed for 1,187 on 195 carriers (6.1) with 12 TD. He also received 14 catches for 240 yards. Strong and powerful build runner. Tight hipped inside runner. Good lower body strength and leg drive. Likes contact. A very willing blocker. Has balance and burst, although he is not fast (4.6). Will not turn the corner on the NFL. Has basically no experience as a receiver. Is smallish and tends to get lost inside. This is an interesting player. He is driven and powerful, but he is also slow (which will drive some teams away from him on draft day). There's a concern about his ability to catch out of the backfield. College production is misleading because of the level of competition, but he could be a good complementary player in the NFL. Williams needs a big season to improve low draft status.
