2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Kenny Mainor, DE, Troy

Mainor moved into DeMarcus Ware's spot after he was drafted in the first round by the Dallas Cowboys. In 2005, Mainor started ten of eleven games recording 43 tackles, 3.5 for losses and 3.5 sacks. In 2006 he started all of the team's thirteen games while raking up 47 tackles, 10.5 for losses and 6.5 sacks. He also broke up three passes and forced a fumble. Prior to the 2007 season, Mainor was demoted to the backup position. He regained his spot after the incumbent was injured. He then proceeded to start six of the ten games he played recording 40 tackles, 9.5 for losses plus five sacks. Is very athletic and fast (4.60). Moves very well laterally. Good in pursuit, which bodes well if he makes a position switch. Has backpedaling ability. Is lean, but needs to bulk up fast because he will get pushed around. Does not bend well. Is slow to react. An underachiever in a lower level. Lazy is never a good sign. Mainor, on talent alone (he is projected as an outside linebacker in the NFL) should be drafted in the middle rounds. But he has major character issues; he was arrested in September 2007 for possession of drugs, plus he does not seem interested in the game itself. Thus, a late round spot is more likely for him now.
