2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Ahtyba Rubin, DT, Iowa State

Rubin was not highly recruited out of high school. In fact, he went on to enroll at tiny Trinity Valley Community College in Texas. In his freshman season, Rubin played in all positions along the team's defensive line. He was then shifted to the offensive line prior to the beginning of the 2005 season. Rubin went on to receive All Conferences honors for his performance. In the summer of 2006, Rubin transferred to Iowa State University, where he started nine of twelve games for the Cyclones at defensive tackle -- recording 34 tackles with four accounting for losses and he also had one sack. Rubin played in all of the team's games during his senior campaign, registering 42 tackles (with four for loss) and recording 1.5 sacks. Rubin stays low and maintains good leverage. He is agile and moves well along the line, despite the fact that he did not posses good speed (5.1-40) or real burst. Smooth when changing directions, he has a real quick spin move and does well on line-called stunts. Rubin has an awfully good instinct for the position. Although he moves well through traffic, Rubin can and will be overpowered. He is undersized and under-strengthened. His lacks of consistency, rush ability, and adequate technique will hurt him. Rubin is a somewhat intriguing prospect. He does have a high energy motor, but was inconsistent in his two years at Iowa State. He is not physically gifted and lacks a significant talent, which will hurt his stock. Depending on team's needs, he could slip completely out of the draft. Nonetheless, he does have the desire to play at the next level. If a team gives him a chance, he could wind up making a roster.
