Chilo Rachal Scouting Report

Chilo Rachal is a huge offensive guard prospect. He was voted to the all Pac 10 team by the conferences coaches. Rachal is a good player, but not a dominant player and for a guard to go on the first day of the draft, he has to be dominant. There are also concerns about injuries, as he missed three games in 2007 with a knee injury, but those are more likely to get worse than better if he returns to school. Leaving now is the right move for Rachal because his mother has a stomach tumor. His decision to leave is so that he can support his family. He is a good run blocking guard, but struggles against quicker defensive lineman. Rachal would not likely improve his draft stock by staying in school and with his mother's illness, it seems like a logical decision. He has played a big part in one of the most potent offenses in college football in 2007. Rachal has shot up draft boards since declaring for the draft. He is another prospect in a long line of Southern California lineman making the transition to the NFL. Rachal has been climbing up draft boards due to his size and versatility. He will likely be a second round prospect and the second guard taken. He seems to be a great fit for a team like the Steelers and Eagles. Rachal will likely be able to play early after facing elite talent at Southern Cal.
