Curtis Painter, QB, Purdue

Curtis Painter finished his career as the best quarterback in school history, at least statistically. He had a fantastic junior season, throwing for 3846 yards, 29 touchdowns, only 11 interceptions, all while completing 62.6 percent of his passes. Painter has good size for the position, at 6'4" and 230 pounds, and has plenty of arm strength and accuracy to play at the next level. Painter has a wealth of experience against tough Big Ten defenses. For his career, Painter has thrown for 11163 yards, completing 59.9 percent of his passes for 67 touchdowns, and 46 interceptions. Painter's decision making has improved a little bit each season, but it still may be one of the biggest knocks against his skills. He continues to make poor reads more often than other experienced starters. He seams to make his biggest mistakes when his team needs a big play. Painter still locks onto receivers on occasion, and neglects to look off safeties to open up the field. Painter is also one of the streakier quarterbacks in the country. When he's on, he is as good as you'll find in college football. However, when he isn't hot, he tends to make mistakes. These hot streaks don't run game to game like many players, but from quarter to quarter or even series to series. Painter has the skills to be the top quarterback in this class, but couldn't put it all together on the field this year. He was a first or second round pick coming into the season, but poor play and some minor injuries have dropped him to a likely fifth round selection.
