2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC

Jackson is one of the streakiest players in this year's draft. Part of this may be due to the fact that he plays on a defense full of stars at Southern California that beat him to the punch. Jackson was a preseason All-America and top ten draft prospect leading up to the 2006 college season. After a slow start to the 2006 season, he heated up to finish with 46 tackles (including 11 tackles for loss) and 4 sacks. Jackson is a great physical specimen at 6'5" and 271 pounds and has excellent size for a defensive end. He is a bit raw, but rushes the passer very well. When Jackson does not sack the passer, he does a great job of stopping quarterbacks from completing passes by either batting them down or intercepting them. Jackson is very stout at the point of attack and is great against the run; he will be a good fit as a 3-4 end you don't expect to get great pressure from, but who can stop the run. Jackson has performed well in one on one drills at the Senior Bowl. He did not disappoint at the combine, but he also didn't shock anyone with his speed or strength. He is a steady player and will be a starter in the league for years to come. Jackson has seen his stock rise over the last few weeks after the free agent signings saw so many teams desperate for 3-4 defensive ends. Jackson has proven himself throughout his career at one of the elite collegiate programs against top offensive tackles. Jackson did well at USC's pro day, weighing in at 271 pounds and still having enough explosion to record a 34 inch vertical jump. Jackson could easily sneak into the bottom of the first round and will not make it late into the second round.
