2007 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Lawrence Timmons, OLB, Florida State

Lawrence Timmons started just one season at outside linebacker for Florida State before deciding to enter the 2007 draft. Timmons displays tremendous athleticism and all the physical tools to be successful at the next level. He has a good combination of size and speed, in addition to good upper and lower body strength. Timmons has good lateral movement to quickly move down the line of scrimmage and jump back to the outside if needed. He has enough agility and speed to keep up with most tight ends and running backs in passing situations. Timmons plays an aggressive style on the field, which sometimes results in over pursuit of the play. He could benefit from a little more bulk to compete with bigger linemen and tight ends he will face in the NFL. Timmons is still a bit raw with his technique, perhaps from starting just one season in college, but his physical skills, playmaker ability and tremendous upside cannot be ignored. He is likely to start at weakside linebacker in NFL, but will still be a force against the run and as a pass rusher. Timmons is clearly one of the top outside linebackers in the draft and should be a late first round selection.
